In honor of the United States’ semiquincentennial, Concordia University Chicago will host a year-long series of events for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. The series includes guest lectures by nationally recognized scholars and historians, interactive workshops, and cultural events. Most events are free and open to the public.
The series will kick off on March 9 at 4 p.m. in Concordia-Chicago’s Christopher Center, where constitutional scholar Jeffrey Rosen will present “Pursuit: The Founder’s Guide to Life, Liberty, and Virtue.” The lecture—which is part of the Lectureship in Christianity, Humanities, and Public Life Series, generously funded by Dr. and Mrs. C. Ross Betts—will examine how the founders' understanding of happiness, virtue, liberty, and power helped shape American democracy.
Additional events include:
- April 14 at 7 p.m. – Journalist Jonah Goldberg will present “Freedom and the Founding,” sponsored by the American Enterprise Institute, examining the American Revolution’s role in the development of a free society.
- June 27 at 6:30 p.m. – The University Band, conducted by Dr. Richard Fischer, will present its annual Patriotic Pops concert on the Pillars lawn.
- October 1 at 7:30 p.m. - Join educator, author, and entrepreneur Ian V. Rowe as he shares his F.R.E.E. framework for helping young people build lives of purpose, responsibility, and opportunity. Rowe is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, cofounder of Vertex Partnership Academies, and a senior visiting fellow at the Woodson Center.
- October 23 at 7:00 a.m. - Join us for a special presentation featuring Dr. Rachel Ferguson, Professor of Business and Assistant Dean, as she explores the intellectual legacy of Bob Woodson and his influence on approaches to community leadership, opportunity and social change.
